Shiroabhyangam!
The head has many marma’s, or vital
energy centres, and is a reflection of the entire body, thus
relieving tension and rebalancing from head to toe. Ayurvedic Head
Massage (or Shirobhyanga) promotes rejuvenation to the whole being.
The practice helps relieve insomnia, headaches and stress related
disorders while boosting the immune system. This massage blissfully
relaxes and balances mind body and spirit.
Shirobhyanga restores balance and
harmony of the three higher Chakras – Vishuddha (the base of the
throat), Ajna (the forehead/third eye) and Sahasrara (the crown or
thousand petal lotus chakra). This therapy has been known to result
in clearer vision, both physical and intuitive as well as improved
concentration as it increases the brain's pranic life force or
physiologically speaking, the oxygen in the brain is
increased.
Traditional Ayurvedic head massage
using specific herbal oils with specialized gentle deep strokes and
pressure on various marma points, balances the doshas, and offers
relief from hair and scalp problems, strengthens hair roots and
after a series of massages, promotes lustre and health to the hair
and scalp. Additionally the massage helps to improve the function of
the five senses, and the nervous system which improves blood
circulation and helps with detoxification of the body and negative
sense impressions. Shirobhyanga reduces stress, depression, anxiety,
insomnia, and relieves musculoskeletal
tension.
